Regular Checkups

regular checkups

Children generally begin regular six-month dental visits between ages two and three. You are encouraged to come back and sit by your child during these visits. Parental brushing and flossing is very important for children and should begin as soon as the first tooth erupts and continue until age eight or nine. Tricks and techniques will also be demonstrated and shared at this time. At this appointment your child’s teeth will be examined, cleaned of all plaque, calculus, and stains. A fluoride treatment will be administered.

The doctor will recommend any necessary radiographs
(x-rays), which will be taken at that time. Radiographs allow the doctor to evaluate between the teeth for the beginnings of cavities. Usually, around age six a panoramic radiograph will be taken to assess growth and development. We utilize lead aprons and high-speed films to minimize radiation exposure. Typically, a set of x-rays exposes your child to less radiation than a day in the sun.

When your child’s appointment is finished, he or she will be sent home with a new toothbrush, dental floss, toothpaste, and a small prize.
