Your child will encounter dental milestones over the course of their young life.
Here are the highlights and some treatment options to consider at each.
You should expect to see your child’s first baby tooth appear between 6 and 8 months.
AROUND 1 YEAR
We recommend your child visit the dentist around his or her first birthday.
At around 4 years we capture your child’s first x-rays to ensure proper positioning of adult teeth and catch any issues early.
At around six years of age, your child will see their first adult tooth appear, triggering the loss of their first baby tooth.
Around seven years you can consider dental sealants on the first permanent molars to arrive.
At about age 8, we’ll be able to advise whether an orthodontic referral for early treatment may be advisable.
At around 12 years of age, your child’s final baby teeth will fall out, with permanent adult teeth taking their place. With final teeth in place, dental sealants can be placed on the second set of permanent molars.
17 TO 18 YEARS
Between the ages of 17 and 18, we will evaluate wisdom teeth for removal and can offer a referral to an oral surgeon.
